System Design & Validation...

Shire design and validate staff election systems, monitor them for legal compliance with Equal Opportunity legislation and advise on necessary changes to existing systems. This can be everything from helping design and monitor the interviews for a single key appointment, to designing full systems for sifting tens of thousands of applicants and appointing only the very best to a post.

Shire Professional believe we are the leading private sector provider of selection and assessment services to the UK police service.  Shire already have selection tools for sifting applications for the police service and for the selection of Police Community Support Officers. We also have a range of tools for police promotion from Sergant through to Superintendent, based upon the Integrated Competency Framework.

We can quickly provide a sift for Police Recruits, Special Constabulary, PCSO or any internal selection process.  You can even chose the competencies we sift against. We can also score, sift and/or shortlist those applications from as little as £3. Shire developed the current national UK police competency based application form.  We currently sift applications for 12 UK police forces, monitor the process for bias and generate feedback reports for candidates. Shire also specialise in selection and assesment within fast and graduate streams within the public and private sector.

We can design and use a range of tools, from robust sifting systems for frequently filled posts, to bespoke assessment suites for key strategic appointments. We are experienced in the design and validation of scored application forms, psychometric testing, interviews, assessment centres and appraisal systems.

Prospective employees and communities expect you to select your staff fairly. The UK and EU legislative framework affords job applicants, whether internal or external, a right to dispute your selection decisions and if necessary to resort to the law to remedy a poor decision. Whether their case is proven or not this can be costly to your business in terms of business reputation and disruption.

At Shire we have a track record of producing systems and processes that are defensible. We design in this defensibility from the start so that you know you are treating people fairly. We can monitor to ensure this continues to be the case in live use, and provide expert evidence if the worst should happen.

Getting the right staff in role is the most important decision any organisation can make. If you were to consider investing in a new piece of technology or equipment that was going to be critical to your business and cost you tens of thousands of pounds a year to run, you would want to do your homework.

You would want to know that it was going to do the job you wanted it to do, and would do that reliably and safely. You would look at all of the options, including the competition, examine the brochures and check out the manufacturer’s claims for performance. You might even ask for a demonstration. You would invest time and effort in the search.

With equipment you always have the option of returning it to the manufacturer if you are unhappy with it for any reason. You don’t get that option with people. For some reason when it comes to selecting that most important asset, our staff, this scrutiny is often bypassed, with potentially catastrophic results. Poor selection decisions give poor staff access to your most important customers where they can undo years of relationship building in a few days.
