Competency Based Application Forms...

Sifting large numbers of able candidates for a few posts can be a time consuming and difficult task.

At Shire we have considerable experience in developing competency based application forms which sift quickly, cheaply and with complete fairness. We have developed sifts for organizations with as few as 100 applications for a senior management position, for an organization with 500 applications a year to an elite management programme, and for organizations with as many as 100,000 applications a year.

The formats have been tried and tested with a range of groups to ensure acceptability and compliance with equal opportunity legislation. We also offer a scoring service to sift the competency elements of applications , and if need be we can generate a detailed feedback report for the candidate.

This is already a service we provide on a large scale for 12UK police forces. We also developed the new national competency based application form now being used to select all recruits to all 43 Home Office police forces (and those of British Transport Police, the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and Ministry of Defence Police). We have also developed and scored applications for PCSO's, as well as middle and senior management positions with a number of UK police forces.

This service is incredible reliable and cost effective.  Our police process assessors are trained, retrained, monitored and quality assured more than any other team in the UK.  They also practice their skills more regularly as our core team of 7 assessors and a psychologist score and quality assure over 16000 applications a year.

We offer cost effective scoring based upon the Integrated Competency Framework which now covers the police family (regular, special constabulary, PCSO and support staff), probation and prison services.  We have scoring schemes developed for the selection of Sergeants, Inspectors, Chief Inspectors and Superintendents based upon the ICF competencies, where all, or a selection of the competencies can be used to sift and/or shortlist applications.

We have provided the in-house training for over 500 assessors in the use of competency based application forms. We can even handle the process of informing candidates of the outcomes on your headed note paper to take the burden completely. Our scoring service is particularly useful during recruiting campaigns when we can score up to 1000 applications a week, or when organizations have sickness or unforeseen abstraction of their own assessors.
